Urology Doctors who Perform Vasectomies
This surgery is performed by a urologist.
A physician that has complete knowledge and has pursued the study of male and female urinary tract and the reproductive organs of the male is a urologist.
He or she needs to be skilled in gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine and a few other specialties.
Qualifications of a Vasectomy Doctor
A person aiming to be a urologist must have a graduate degree from a board-approved medical school and be a resident for five years so as to complete an ACGME accredited urology program. In these five years, the person must learn all that he can by following the procedure and gaining knowledge in the different fields that he or she needs to be aware of. One year should be dedicated to general surgery, three years gaining knowledge of clinical urology, and another six months getting trained in urology, general surgery or clinical discipline pertinent to urology. The person should spend his last and final year by being the chief resident in urology and should also have clinical responsibilities. This should all be carried out under supervision.
Level of Expertise
There are eight areas within which a urologist must be specialised. These are urologic oncology, female urology, male infertility, pediatric urology, renal transplantation, neurourology, urinary tract stones and erectile dysfunction, commonly known as impotence.
Role of a Urologist in a Vasectomy
Getting subspecialised in male infertility allows urologists to be able to perform a vasectomy successfully. This is because this field deals with the reproductive organs of a male and his capability to reproduce. As vasectomy is a surgical procedure to terminate the power of a man to reproduce, it becomes a service provided by a urologist.
Are Vasectomies Immediate?
This is a surgery in which the urologist stops the transportation of sperm from the testis of a man to his semen by cutting his tubes. Sperms are made in the testicles and are transmitted by a tube called the vas deferens. A vasectomy clears the presence of sperm from the semen of a man. This is a surgery that does not have any immediate effects. Therefore, precaution is a necessity for some time after the surgery.
